Materials
3mm vegetable-tanned cowhide from a tannery that still uses bark liquors, with a wool felt backing. Vegetable tanning takes longer and costs more than chrome, and it is the only tannage that gains colour rather than just wearing out.
Care
Leave it alone for the first year. After that, work in a little neutral leather balm with a cloth if it feels dry. Avoid standing water — leather and a spilled glass don't mix.
